More than 400 San Franciscans turned out to celebrate the new Epi Center Eco MedSpa, the first eco medspa of its kind in the nation.

The Epi Center opened the doors to its new LEED certified space in April to mark Earth Month and its 10th Anniversary as one of the country's premier medical spas.

The landmark event was celebrated at both an afternoon tea and champagne event that was attended by more than 150 guests and a private evening anniversary and launch party that was attended by more than 300.

Organic hors d'ouevres, cocktails, and beverages were provided by the Orchard Garden Hotel's Roots restaurant, VeeV acai liquor, Mighty Leaf tea, Numi tea, Live energy drink, Miette confiserie, Organic Vintners, and Trecini Cellars.

A percentage of the evening's proceeds were donated to the EcoMom Alliance through the Epi Center Eco MedSpa's Centered On You outreach program.

Eco-Fabulous founder and style guru Zem Joaquin, who served as the "green style police" for the project and nationally celebrated green architect and author of Green Building and Remodeling for Dummies Eric Corey Freed marked the event by creating a commemoratory eco plaster-of-paris plaque with their handprints that will be mounted at the new eco medspa.

"This is a remarkable project for a number of reasons," says Joaquin. "Not only is it LEED certified at the Gold level in an existing landmark building, but every aspect of the project shows how it's possible to create a fabulous, stylish and luxurious space using only green materials.

"What makes it even more remarkable is that construction had still be in process – paint literally going up on the walls – right before the opening but there wasn't one single hit of toxic fumes because all the materials are clean," she continued.

A trendsetter in the skin rejuvenation industry since its opening a decade ago, the board certified plastic surgeon led Epi Center Eco MedSpa now combines its beauty enhancing medical procedures with the most effective organic treatments and healthy environment to create a naturally vibrant and youthful appearance with minimal downtime. The Epi Center Eco MedSpa is located in its new luxurious and sustainable LEED certified offices in the prestigious Union Square medical building at 450 Sutter Street, Suite 800.

The Epi Center Eco MedSpa worked with leaders in eco-architecture and design to create an elegant and luxurious LEED certified medical spa. Freed ensured the Epi Center MedSpa conformed to the strict green building standards established by the U.S. Green Building Council. Joaquin ensured the design adhered to architect and designer William McDonough's strict "Cradle to Cradle" standards.

Cradle to Cradle means as many aspects of the medspa as possible are designed to be in line with natural systems to create a building that allows nature and commerce to co-exist in a way that supports the health of the planet. Justin Martinkovic, principal in the San Francisco commercial and residential architecture firm MartinkovicMilford, served as the lead architect on the project. Will Wick of San Francisco's Wick Design Group designed the interior. And Alsterlind Construction Inc. served as the contractor.

The Epi Center Eco MedSpa is light, elegant and inviting, cultivating San Francisco chic meets eastern simplicity in its design. It was constructed using eco materials, from recycled and FSC-certified wood, marble flooring and countertops, to the eco-paints and recycled fabrics in a color palette that reflects those found in San Francisco's natural environment.

The Eco MedSpa's treatment rooms are named after our local natural treasures, from the Farallon Islands to rare and endangered animals. It is also energy efficient and conserves resources through its lighting, recycling, electronic medical charting, digital photography and water filters that eliminate the need for bottled water.

Eco medical treatments on the Epi Center Eco MedSpa's menu include those that are light-based, such as laser hair removal and the PhotofacialSM Elite that offers a naturally non-toxic approach to skin rejuvenation.

The menu also includes a crystal free state-of-the-art microdermabrasion treatment that delivers long-lasting results without the toxins or pollutants associated with the traditional treatment. Traditional medical spa skin rejuvenation services remain on the menu, being balanced with organic skin care products and a healthful environment to bring out natural beauty holistically.
