The Leading Hotels of the World may be approaching its 80th anniversary, but it continues to attract members that project a distinctively forward-looking profile. Explore the ten Leading Hotels that have gained coveted places on the Conde Nast Traveler 2007 Hot List:

Hotel de Rome, Berlin
Looking for a hotel that has an indoor pool in what was once a bank vault?  Look no further than the recently opened Hotel de Rome in Berlin.  The hotel has been developed in a grand building which once housed the head office of the Dresdner Bank until 1945.

Many of the historic architectural features have been preserved, and enhance the decidedly 21st-century accommodations.  Situated just off Unter den Linden, the hotel is adjacent to the State Opera House and Humboldt University.

Villa Kennedy, Frankfurt
A stylish blend of old and new, the Villa Kennedy incorporates the traditional Villa Speyer, built in 1904, and three newer buildings, all conveniently located on the south banks of the River Main in the vibrant Sachsenhausen neighborhood. Interiors offer a striking blend of cutting-edge design and refined sensibilities.

The 163 guest accommodations are complemented by a magnificent four-level spa and a 15-meter indoor swimming pool.

Castello del Nero, Chianti
The heart of this exquisite retreat is a fully restored 12th-century castle, renewed with 21st-century comfort and flair. With breathtaking views of the Tuscan hills, the 50 individually designed rooms and frescoed suites envelop guests in luxury.

Adding to the sense of total pampering is the 10,000-square-foot ESPA Spa facility offering a variety of holistic experiences as well as classic aesthetic treatments.

Town House Galleria, Milan
Created within the historic buildings of the famed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in the heart of Milan, the 24-suite Town House Galleria is a symbol of elegance in this center of fashion.

It is a shopper's dream come true – with views overlooking some of the most exclusive designer boutiques in the city, and a butler to assist on your shopping expeditions.  La Scala and the Duomo are just steps away.

Castillo Hotel Son Vida, Mallorca
Emerging from a renovation program in 2006, Castillo Hotel Son Vida, was formerly a thirteenth-century castle.  Overlooking Palma Bay, in a residential area not far from the city center, the hotel offers 164 rooms and suites, all with spectacular views.

Steeped in history, it also provides the latest in creature comforts and technological amenities, as well as excellent dining options, and enviable recreation facilities – including three 18-hole golf courses, a fully equipped health club and a Sisley Beauty Farm.

Les Trois Rois, Basel
Another hotel that has completed a renovation program in 2006, the 119-room Les Trois Rois in Basel has a long history, and a new lease on life.  The first official record as a guest house dates to the 17th century, and it claimed its place as a grand hotel in the mid 19th century.

Les Trois Rois still maintains its heritage of superb service and outstanding hospitality, while featuring the high-tech touches expected by today's travelers.

People's Republic of China
Banyan Tree, Lijiang
The architecture of the 55 villas at Banyan Tree Lijiang, reflecting traces of the local Naxi culture, evokes an unmistakable sense of place.

Situated 15 minutes from the town of Dayan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the resort is located in Yunnan Province, 2,000 meters above sea level, with mesmerizing views of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.  The first luxury hotel in Lijiang, the Banyan Tree offers refined dining, a superb spa and outstanding attention to detail.

The Nam Hai, Hoi An
A resort of distinctive serenity and style, The Nam Hai is located on China Beach.  There are 100 villas, 40 of which offer private swimming pools in secluded courtyards. Interiors reflect a minimalist influence – with soft neutral colors and clean, sleek design.

In addition to a world-class spa overlooking a placid lagoon, there are three beachfront swimming pools, four tennis courts, a state-of-the-art gym and a library.  Guests can still stay connected to the outside world with complimentary wireless Internet access.

United States
The James Hotel Chicago
Only steps from the famous Miracle Mile, The James Hotel Chicago brings a new hospitality concept to the Windy City.  Combining the best qualities of a classic luxury hotel with decidedly hip residential comforts, it offers an exceptional travel experience.

The 297 accommodations include guest rooms, studios, lofts and apartments, all appointed with the latest technology, and complimentary wireless Internet connection throughout.

Tortuga Bay, Punta Cana Resort & Club, Dominican Republic
With just 30 rooms and 20 suites, Tortuga Bay brings an element of serene exclusivity to Punta Cana. Guests are personally greeted upon arrival at the airport and eased through customs to a private car.

At the resort, they find the masterful influence of Oscar de la Renta in the design and appointment of the accommodations.  A Six Senses Spa, horseback riding, world-class golf, ecological tours, and scuba diving offer ideal recreation options.
