As we roll into October, the latest international tourist arrival stats roll in.:

Laos sees 2.6 mil from Jan-Aug; Philippines 4.1 mil from Jan-Sep; Indonesia 9.1 mil from Jan-Aug; Singapore 12.6 mil from Jan-Sep; Vietnam 12.7 mil from Jan-Sep; and Thailand 26 mil from Jan-Sep.

But September sees a MoM slowdown for Singapore and Vietnam - will October pick up?

The Indonesian Ministry of Transport reports that the number of aircraft in Indonesia is at just 40% of pre-pandemic levels - and that 800 are needed to meet demand.

In the meantime in the Philippines, Cebu Pacific finalises its purchase of 102 A321 neos, with delivery from 2029. Will Boeing's workforce cuts and delays of its 777X worsen the situation?

It's all about food this week, as Agoda reports that Malaysia and Thailand are some of the top countries their travellers choose for an attractive culinary destination, VNAT and Nestle launch a new local cuisine promotion program, the Philippines' DOT is partnering with fast food chain Mang Inasal, and THAI launch special Thai street food meals for economy class passengers.

  • Pchum Ben Festival sees 1.8 mil travellers nationwide, Battambang sees highest number of visitors.

Indonesia

  • Indonesia records 9.1 mil int’l visitors from Jan-Aug 2024, highest since pandemic, +21% YoY.

Laos

  • Laos receives 2.6 mil int’l visitors from Jan-Aug 2024, +19% YoY.

Malaysia

  • 2.3 mil Chinese tourists visit Malaysia from Jan-Aug 2024, +160% YoY.

Myanmar

  • ASEAN leaders call for immediate action to “halt indiscriminate violence”; Philippines admits 5 Point plan not very successful.

Philippines

  • AirAsia Philippines suspends all flights between Manila and China; Cebu Pacific to reduce flights to main Chinese hubs.

Singapore

  • 70% increase in high-net-worth visitors during F1 race week, contributing 70% increase in overall spending.

Thailand

  • Flooding continues in 23 provinces affecting 66,000 families in 1,647 villages; Ping River water level reaches historic high.

Vietnam

  • Vietnam’s Sep 2024 int’l arrivals slow down to 1.3 mil from 1.4 mil in Aug 2024, but Jan-Sep 2024 arrivals are +43% YoY.
