Taking Action: potential US government shutdown and business travel
Monday, 16th October 2023
Source : Global Business Travel Association (GBTA)

Currently the US Congress is in a 'holding pattern' in reaching an agreement on 2024 government funding which has created the potential threat of a US government shutdown.

In September, Congress passed a continuing resolution that will keep agencies and programs operating through November 17th.

In the event a budget agreement isn't reached by that date, U.S. Federal agencies could begin the process of shutting down non-essential governmental operations.

Adding complexity is the current process underway to approve and confirm a new Speaker in the U.S. House of Representatives.

A government shutdown would have negative impacts on business travel across the U.S. as well as beyond.

You can make your voice heard on behalf of business travel and our industry by reaching out to your elected officials to stress the importance of reaching a resolution and preventing a shutdown.
