New Zealand attracted a record close to 3m number of visitors in 2013 but the number of Chinese tourists fell sharply in December, echoing a trend also recorded in Australia during that month.
1 Chinese outbound tourism has been hit by the China Travel Law, introduced on October 1, which demands minimum tour standards, increasing tour costs by up to 30%.
Tourism NZ CEO Kevin Bowler said the 2013 visitor record was primarily driven by visitors from traditional long-stay markets and Australia.
