Since the first Shangri-La hotel opened in 1971 in Singapore, the group's horizon has expanded rapidly throughout Asia Pacific over the past four decades. Shangri-La has been at the forefront of luxury hospitality in mainland China and, in recent years, has also been focused on bringing its legendary hospitality and superb hotel facilities to international gateway cities in Europe, North America and the Middle East.
Shangri-La's first property in Europe opened in Paris in 2010. The 81-room hotel with beautiful views of the Eiffel Tower was built in 1896 as the private home of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's grand-nephew, Prince Roland Bonaparte. This summer two landmark hotels will open in Europe in London and Istanbul as well as one in Shanghai in Puxi.
Located on the edge of the Bosphorus Strait, the 186-room Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul offers an unfolding panorama of Istanbul's domes and minarets and the green hills of the city's Asian shores. The glamorous hotel, which opens 11 May, melds European, Turkish and Asian design and offers the most spacious rooms in the city with Bosphorus views.
The group's newest flagship hotel, the 508-room Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai envelopes guests in a world of luxury and modern glamour befitting one of the most exciting and influential international cities. It will open in the heart of Shanghai in late June.
Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard in London will be the city's first elevated luxury hotel, occupying Levels 34 to 52 of the 310-metre-high building. The tallest building in Western Europe, The Shard is a landmark becoming synonymous with London itself. The hotel opens late this summer.
The "360° Shangri-La Journey" Weibo campaign is one of the strategic digital activities Shangri-La is undertaking in mainland China, where the L2 Digital IQ Index: China ranked the company the highest out of 17 global brands for digital competence. Shangri-La has more Weibo followers than any other hotel group, and is expanding its activity on Weibo and other social media channels in China this year.
