At ITB Berlin visitors will be able to go on a journey taking them though the colourful history of centuries of porcelain manufacturing.
Royal Delft 2018 is a special year. “We would like everyone to experience the passion and the beauty of our craftsmanship. Each day this year we will be asking an individual to contribute to this craftsmanship by painting part of a tableau. 365 people from all over the world will be united in a piece of Royal Delft history”, explains Helen Taylor from Royal Delft.
Dating back to 1653, Royal Delft is the only remaining porcelain factory producing Delft ceramics in Delft, and is a part of the national cultural heritage. This is where the famous ceramics are still being painted entirely by hand, in accordance with a centuries-old tradition. In 1919 the word “Royal” was added to the name, emphasising its special connection to the Dutch royal family.
Nowadays the Delft Blue factory is also a technical institute for ceramics as well as a museum. From 28 March to 30 September 2018 the exhibition ‘Nouveau Blue – vision to realisation’ will be showing how the foundations were laid in the 19th century for ceramics that are now being made all over the world.
