Knowledge sharing nowadays differs from the methods used before; these days, there is a developing science known as Knowledge Management.

It is a becoming a popular method of knowledge sharing used and applied by different organizations such as businesses, government and military.

Looking into the core of knowledge empowerment through social media lies in a continuous process such as Connect, Store, Collect, Learn and Reuse, which begins once we shared what we know.

Knowledge Management (KM) is an emerging science. But it has been around in its most basic form — knowledge sharing via storytelling — for ages, and its now seen in social media sites like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.

In the Beginning...

From the ancient Egyptian times up to the new generations of families, knowledge sharing via writing, drawing and storytelling show the early forms of KM.

Knowledge Develops

Social media, at present, are the latest and most in-demand form of knowledge sharing; however, it will still never gain what you can accomplish through face-to-face conversation, whether via video conferencing or in person.

Social networking sites, such as Facebook or Twitter, touch our lives on a day-to-day basis that they allow us to share our own little voice to motivate, to influence, to argue, to share knowledge and nevertheless, to be heard across the globe.

The power is in our hands, affiliate marketers, Internet professionals, business owners, or ordinary users, as part of the majority, must use them with utmost responsibility. We might have heard about job loss, lawsuits, public protests and other negative effects of the postings we made in Facebook, blogs we created in our WordPress account, or videos we uploaded in YouTube.

Becoming socially aware while sharing knowledge is something that must be look into seriously, since it is meant to increase public awareness, launch careers, promote ideas or bring people closer together – all the positive effects of social media.

The positive results generated by social media outweigh all the disadvantages of it. When dealing with the process of knowledge sharing via social media, the following aspects are taken into account:

1. Connect. This is the process of interacting with your social circle like associates, friends and other professionals through Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter.

2. Collect. This is the process of gathering or collecting what you receive such as videos, texts, photos and others as a result of engaging or dealing with your associates when you are online.

3. Store. This is the process of cataloging, classifying and documenting what you gather on your Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook page. It helps you in leveraging or retrieving your data for future use.

4. Reuse. This is process of leveraging knowledge that you have stored and applied. It allows you to add future experiences to what you collected and enables you to understand the situation and apply what you learned from decision-making to a higher level.

You have the right and privilege to explore, discover and share knowledge to the all people across the globe. What this power means is for you to become wiser and more strategic in utilizing, maximizing and controlling knowledge that you absorb from social media.

The invasion of social media in Internet marketing has just begun. This is only the beginning of a whole new era when information and knowledge spreads in a matter of seconds.
