Leisure Destinations Can Only Blame Themselves for the 'Tourism Leakage' Friday, 12th January 2024
In a recent article, the author argued that foreign tourism investments/ownership and management of resorts in the Maldives constitute 'tourism leakage'.
This term describes money spent by visitors that end up 'leaking' to external companies and economies and , according to the author, it is 'unethical, extractive, and ultimately contributes to the perpetuation of colonial ideologies and inequality.
