Thanyapura Sports & Leisure Club has scored its latest goal with the launch of Asia's first Sports Hotel, where athletes of all levels can enjoy seamless hospitality in chic guest rooms inspired by the sporting lifestyle and complemented by Olympic-level facilities across the spectrum of major sports.

"It has always been our belief that there is an untapped market in Asia for a new, more active getaway for couples or families. Everyone can benefit from Thanyapura's world class facilities and winning vision, and be inspired by rubbing shoulders with real superstar athletes." Robert Hauck, Thanyapura President

The first of its kind in Asia: The newly launched, world-class Thanyapura Sports Hotel supports guests in their pursuit of sporting excellence at TSLC's state of the art facilities.

Elite athletes from the world's best sports teams, gold medal winning Olympians and World Champions, and even couch potatoes from around Asia who want to stretch their muscles and get active are all flocking to the Thanyapura Sports Hotel, which has been accepting guests since mid-November 2012.

The 77-room Sports Hotel is nestled within the unique Thanyapura compound - a 23-hectare plot framed by mountains and nature just 15 minutes from Phuket International Airport - offering 34 'Sport Rooms', 34 'Energy Rooms' and nine studios.

The rooms and studios also feature spectacular prints of original artworks inspired by sport commissioned from renowned Californian artist, paralympian and motivational speaker Gregory Burns.

Thanyapura Sports Hotel: Every aspect of the hotel centres around creating the balance between achieving comfort and developing sporting ability.

4Hoteliers Image LibraryWhat sets the Sports Hotel apart is the ease with which its guests can connect to five sports academies with world class facilities already gaining international recognition, and the cream of coaches, equipment and technology, united by Thanyapura's uncompromising commitment to excellence and success.

The academies include Football, Aquatics, Tennis, Rugby and Triathlon, where guests can train at their level of performance with expert coaches and former champions who comprise the Thanyapura team.

Thanyapura President Robert Hauck said guests at the hotel could find themselves rubbing shoulders with a who's who of world sport. "We have recently hosted world record holders and Olympic champions from the British, Dutch, Italian and Hungarian national swimming teams, who were here at TSLC for high performance tune-up sessions.

"But at the other end of the spectrum, we are now getting around 10 Korean honeymoon couples a week, who want to do Muay Thai sessions or yoga. It has always been my belief that there is an untapped market in Asia for a new, more active getaway for couples or families. Everyone can benefit from Thanyapura's world class facilities and winning vision, and be inspired.

"I was charmed by a recent grandfather and grandson who came to stay for 10 days. He taught his grandson how to play tennis, they took bikes out on the road for long rides in the hills, and went swimming every day. On one occasion they stayed on to watch the British Olympic team doing their sprint sessions and had a chat to the stars. It was a real bonding experience and I could see them getting closer every day. That, to me, is the essence of what Thanyapura is all about."

Mr. Hauck said the first big name on the Sports Hotel guest list had been Ruedi Wild, the winner of last year's Laguna Phuket Triathlon. "And the door hasn't stopped revolving with sports stars since," he said.

Other recent guests include retired swimming superstar Pieter van den Hoogenband, with fellow Dutch gold medalists Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Femke Heemskerk, Dutch national team coach Jacco Verhaeren and Royal Dutch Swimming Federation Elite Swimming Team Manager Aad van Groningen. The all-star group was at Thanyapura for a high performance training camp in January, taking advantage of Phuket's warm weather and the chance to train outdoors in world class facilities.

Surrounded by sports: Thanyapura Sports Hotel pool serves as the perfect warm up for TSLC's renowned Aquatics Academy.

Two Italian 'rock stars' of the pool, Filippo Magnini and Federica Pellegrini, along with coach Matteo Guinta, dropped in to 'jam' with the Dutch team. In February, Liam Tancock (World Record Holder in the 50m Backstroke), Francesca Halsall (five times European Champion), Grant Turner (current UK number one freestyle sprinter) and Amy Smith (Team GB Olympian in the sprint free and fly events) ran through a series of excellent stroke and technique work with Thanyapura's 'Silverfinz' junior swimmers, under the supervision of British Head Coach, James Gibson.

"We have also had plenty of young tennis talent through here at the recent Futures Series tournaments, but this is just the beginning. The opening of the Sports Hotel caps a dizzying few months that has seen Thanyapura's ambitious vision be realized in full, and the name Thanyapura ringing out in the fields, stadia and locker rooms of elite sport around the globe.

"The Sports Hotel is ideal for athletes. The rooms and studios are not fussy or cluttered, but they are contemporary, pared back, and designed with the athlete's needs in mind, from a special menu available for athletes in training to bike racks for cyclists and triathletes who want their steed close at hand to custom mini-bar items like power bars to the high end mattresses for a good night's rest and the spectacular Gregory Burns prints on the walls. All hotel guests have free access to pools, gyms, sports locker rooms, running tracks and group activities at TSLC."

Sports Hotel guests will have access to TSCL facilities including:
  • Full-size International Rugby Board-standard artificial rugby pitch with multi-purpose team locker rooms and facilities including strategy room and physiotherapy room
  • Floodlit Limonta 'Soccer Pro' FIFA-standard pitch
  • 50-metre Olympic-standard swimming pool with electronic timing system, coaches' observation window and a 600-seater shaded grandstand, plus state-of-the-art ozone filtration system
  • 25-metre swimming pool with coach/teaching platform
  • 500-metre cushioned athletics track with long jump, high jump, triple jump, and a 1500-seat shaded grandstand
  • Six Plexicushion tennis courts, four of which are covered with a 600-seat shaded grandstand
  • Floodlit basketball court and handball courts
  • Beach volleyball plus a beach soccer pitch
  • 900sqm Fitness Centre with the very latest Technogym equipment
  • Studios for martial arts, yoga, pilates and dance classes
  • Spinning Room, Hypoxia Room, Power Plates and Stretching Room
Mr. Hauck said Sports Hotel guests would enjoy access to Thanyapura's ground-breaking Integrative Health Centre, which seeks to integrate several aspects of medicine, such as physiotherapy, traditional Asian medicine and contemporary treatment technologies to enhance athletic performance, health and well-being. Tailored health evaluations and treatment using light and electromagnetism are also available to complete the integrated health and wellness offering for sports enthusiasts.

The Sports Hotel is also complemented by Thanyapura's Mind Centre, where expert instructors could teach athletes the art of meditation as another means of focusing and improving performance, as well as general well being. "We are also pioneering some cutting edge work at the new frontier of sport - where the mind and body intersect, and how training the mind can benefit athletic performance."

Thanyapura also boasts a spa with signature Sports Massage, organic delights with special athletes' menu at DiVine restaurant, teambuilding event facilities, and the health-inspired Booster Bar.

"The Booster Bar has become a great place in the evenings," said Mr. Hauck. "It's almost always full of athletes unwinding and chatting, sharing stories or seeking tips from coaches.

"It has been most gratifying to see the full vision of Thanyapura now taking shape in reality, and the Sports Hotel was the missing piece of the puzzle. This is just the beginning of the Thanyapura story."
