Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts announces the launch of charity sales at its China properties to benefit the 5 Colours Foundation.
The hotels aim to raise RMB1 million for the Chengdu-based non-profit organisation that supports disabled students including those who survived the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and the 2010 Qinghai earthquake.
From north Harbin to south Haikou, from west Chengdu to east Shanghai, 35 Shangri-La hotels in mainland China and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will join forces in this fundraising effort. The 5 Colours Foundation, which was established by renowned artist Zhou Chunya in 2009, will use the donation for the "Art for the Disabled Scheme" to help promote the artistic talents of the children in its educational programs.
To create the "Postcards from the Heart" set, Shangri-La selected pieces by 5 Colours Foundations students who have trained with Zhou Chunya. The sets, priced at RMB40 or HK$50, are available for sale at all of Shangri-La's China properties.
In conjunction with the "Postcards from the Heart" launch, the "Heart" and "Hope" exhibition of artwork created by the foundation's students opens at Shangri-La Hotel, Chengdu. This is the second year that the hotel has co-hosted an art exhibition organised by the 5 Colours Foundation. The artwork will be displayed on the hotel's first floor until 28 February 2013.
