A new tech trend supplementing traditional tours with multimedia devices is allowing tourists to better immerse themselves in popular attractions.
"We're going after those tourist looking to go to major sites," said Aline Walter, a marketing representative with MEDER CommTech, at Berlin's ITB conference.
MEDER CommTech's new handheld, multimedia device, which tourists can rent from their hotel concierge, provides users with snippets of information, photos and videos while taking in an attraction.
"All you have to do is click to see what a site is all about," said Walter.
The device also caters to traditional tour formats. Using a secondary device, professional tour guides can record their own soundbites for participants so they can better navigate an attraction.
This versatility allows for a more streamlined, individualized and independent tourist experience, says Walter.
"It brings concierge service to the next level. As a tourist, you don't want to have to seek out information."
