Hong Kong emerged as the top destination for travellers based in Singapore, according to the latest figures released today by ZUJI in its Q1 2007 Online Travel Report -
The report tracks online travelling trends for flights, hotel and other bookings every quarter on all ZUJI sites across Asia Pacific.
Bangkok, Jakarta, Shanghai, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur and Sydney also featured amongst the top 10 destinations booked on ZUJI Singapore. Los Angeles and London were the only non-Asian destinations featuring in the top 20 list.
The report revealed Singapore as the third most popular international destination among Asian travellers as booked across all ZUJI sites. Hong Kong, and Bangkok bagged the first and second places respectively as the overall most popular online travel destinations in Asia Pacific.
"People living in Asia prefer to travel within the region, a trend ZUJI has observed for the past few years. We are also seeing an increase flow of both business and leisure travellers to China from Singapore with Shanghai featuring in the top 5 destinations in Q1 this year. This trend is fuelled by the booming Chinese economy and growth of business opportunities for Singaporeans as well as China offering unexplored and unique destination options for holiday makers," said Mr Philip Ho, General Manager, Singapore & Director of Marketing, ZUJI APAC.
The travel report also revealed an all time high figure for online travel purchases. 87% of travel bookings made on ZUJI Singapore were made online in Q1 2007 as compared to 85% in Q1 2006.
"A high online percentage booking is great news for us. It means that more and more people are getting comfortable with the idea of paying for their travel purchases completely online. This is also an indication of the growing level of trust and confidence in the ZUJI brand," added Mr Ho.
Other key trends in hotel and flight bookings on ZUJI Singapore according to the Q1 2007 report include:
- Travellers in Singapore allowing more lead time to book their flights and hotels and not necessarily waiting till the last minute to get good deal.
- Travellers from Singapore staying more than one night when they check-in.
- Singapore featuring as the third most popular destination for hotels booked on ZUJI Singapore, reflecting Singaporeans holidaying at home, or more likely, booking on behalf of friends, relatives and business acquaintances visiting the Island.
