Hoteliers Should Skip Gadgets And Offer Good Wifi, Netflix

Future hotel rooms will contain most of the conveniences found in today’s homes, said one expert speaking at ITB Berlin.

“We know what guests are spending on at home, so there’s a high likelihood that they will want similar things in a hotel room,” said Moritz von Petersdorff-Campen of SuitePad GmbH.

Petersdorff-Campen said the most important future-hotel amenity will be Netflix and Amazon Prime.

“In more than 85 percent of hotels, you can’t show your own content on hotel TVs. It’s a nightmare,” Petersdorff-Campen said.

In-room vacuum robots will aid cleaning staff, especially in places like Germany where there’s a demographic shortage. “This will save three minutes per room – it will really add up,” Petersdorff-Campen said.

He also predicts that hotels will remove phones completely, and sync temperatures controls to data gleaned from users’ smart phones.

But he doesn’t think hotels should add virtual assistants like Alexa or virtual reality (VR) glasses.
