Hotel groups in the hospitality industry are in for revolutionary mega-mergers, the signs for the next take over become clearer: Jin Jiang Hotels, a Chinese company, make an effort to buy Starwood, a US hotel group.

The result would be a hotel giant, including 2,688 properties worldwide. This is what the newest evaluation of TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data shows.

Jin Jiang Hotels just recently took over the Chinese competitor Plateno Hotels. This was followed by the takeover of the European Louvre Hotels Group in spring, seller was Starwood Capital Group.

Meanwhile, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) also wants to grow by taking over the exclusive FRHI-Hotel Group (Fairmont, Raffles, Swissotel). A group with up to 5000 hotels would be the result.

  • Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels â€" 1,566 Hotels (235,461 rooms) â€" 5 new constructions
