Have you ever fantasized about having a holiday romance? If you answered yes then rest assured: you are not alone.

Hotels.com and Asian dating specialist ‘Lunch Actually' have collaborated on the Single Traveler Survey, a study of the single traveler's holiday "wish list" which reveals that holiday-makers are looking for more than just a tan when abroad. Collecting the opinions of Hong Kong's ‘Lunch Actually' members and online subscribers*, the survey findings released today offer a new perspective on single-person travel.

Among all the Hong Kong respondents, nearly half of them (48%) have been single for over 3 years. Despite 17% of respondents stating that they prefer to travel alone, the survey reveals that most Singletons are looking to meet Mr. or Mrs. Right when on holiday. According to the survey, one in every four single travelers are searching for true love whilst on holiday, with 30% of the respondents also admitting to pre-holiday diets to get in shape.

The survey revealed that approximately one-third (30%) of respondents had enjoyed at least one holiday dalliance in the past, with 14% admitting to multiple. Some people might think that holiday romances only last when on vacation, however 78% of people consider keeping in contact with their holiday crush once back at home. Of that 78%, 24% have kept in touch with their holiday love for more than a year. 12% of them have even started a long distance relationship or are still dating.

The best place to meet "the one" is at none other than the hotel bar according to 49% of respondents, followed by the hotel restaurant (45%) and swimming pool (25%). So if you're on the lookout for love, forget the hotel gym (where only 8% of people surveyed met their Holiday Hottie) and head to where the action is! But try not to stray too far from the hotel: most respondents (53%) said that they look for a fellow hotel guest when considering a holiday romance.

When respondents were asked what the sexiest language is, French speakers topped the list (25%). English (15%) and Chinese (11%) came second and the third.

Hotels.com was delighted to hear the thoughts of one of the stars of the hot TV reality matchmaking show, ‘Bachelors at War'. Commenting on his experience of traveling solo, Rocky said, "Being a single traveler, I am always on the lookout for a holiday romance. Sadly I mostly travel with my friends and lack alone time. Even if I do bump into an attractive lady, it's hard to abandon my friends to approach her. So, girls before bros! I suggest single travelers who are looking to meet "the one" should travel alone, to increase their chances of a holiday romance under the relaxing mood and romantic atmosphere, such as our show. We spent a couple days on an island to know each other better in order to match the compatible one successfully."

Violet Lim, CEO of Lunch Actually offered her opinion on the finding, saying:

"Many singles have shared that they are usually open and receptive to finding romance when on holiday. When people are on vacation, they feel physically relaxed and emotionally renewed, away from their daily routines and work stress - being on holiday is a great setting to fall in love. In fact, many flourishing and happy relationships - especially in the thirty-plus age groups - actually start on holiday!

Zoe Chan, Senior PR Manager, Asia Pacific of Hotels.com pointed out:

"The beauty of the Single Traveler Survey is that it allows us to keep our finger on the pulse of current single travelers' trends. With so many services now tailored specifically to the needs of single travelers, there has never been a better time to fly solo. And who knows? It may just become the story you end up telling your Grandchildren."
Let's plan your next romantic holiday with Hotels.com and you could soon be in the arms of your first or next big love.

* The survey was conducted in July 2013, with a total of 301 respondents from the members and online subscribers of ‘Lunch Actually,' based in Hong Kong.
