Planes, trains and automobiles: For millennials, the sky's the limit.

It is no secret that millennials are keen on travel and are a driving force in the tourism industry, but according to Polina Raygorodskaya, CEO of Wanderu.com, they're particularly keen on ground transport: 74 percent of bus trips in the US were taken by millennials.

Still, optimizing the booking process for ground travel is no easy task, especially for a group notorious for instant gratification.

"They're severe social explorers with ADD â€" they demand instant gratification and they're loyal to companies that make their lives easier," said Raygorodskaya.

Despite the challenge, wedding expediency with traditional transport proved a winning chance for Raygorodskaya and Wanderu.com.

The platform created a middle-layer ground travel technology in order to standardize train and bus schedules, making departure and arrival times more easily searchable. It also optimizes and combines bus and train trips based on a point-to-point service.

Since its launch in August 2013, it's garnered 40 million users worldwide, 80 percent of which are millennials.

Raygorodskaya's key to success? Take advantage of the needs of your target group.

"Wanderu allows millennials to search for travel to get them to and from their locations â€" for this generation, owning a car isn't a status symbol," she said.

"In the end, it's all about ease of use and efficiency."
