Southeast Asia tourism update
Tuesday, 16th June 2026

IATA acknowledges that Changi is a 'net beneficiary' of the Middle East conflict, responding quickly with additional capacity to Europe, but does not see this benefit lasting once Gulf hubs stabilise.

Meanwhile, airlines strike up partnerships to widen their network: Singapore Airlines with Southwest Airlines, Garuda Indonesia with Scandinavian SAS, and Philippine Airlines joins the Oneworld Alliance.

Fradulent transactions in the headlines, with BTS fans in both Thailand and Singapore scammed, Thai outbound travellers to Japan in the red, Cambodia warning travellers against fake e-visa sites; and plans from the Cebu Provincial Government to launch an online booking platform to reduce the risk of online scams.

Thailand confirms that its 1,000 THB outbound charge for Thai travellers will be scrapped, but it still intends to launch the 300 THB tourism tax in Q3 2026.
