Countries across the region make moves to strengthen their global relationships.

Vietnam's President visits China, Indonesia plays it both ways with a state visit to Russia and discussions over a defense agreement with the U.S.; and Australia visits Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei to discuss energy security.

Singapore Airlines group sees a record number of passengers carried in March 2026, +15% YoY, driven by Easter and the Middle East conflict. Singapore's March 2026 international arrivals are also +10% YoY. But as airlines reduce routes not only from the Middle East but East Asia, India and ASEAN - are March's results a one-off?

Bangkok sees 5 million visitors for its Songkran celebrations, +94% YoY, whilst Cambodia records 21 million for Khmer New Year nationwide, 95% of whom are daytrippers.

Malaysia's Haj pilgrimage begins to Saudi Arabia on 18 Mar, Indonesia's to start on 22 Apr. Both countries reassure travellers that they are closely monitoring the geopolitical situation.
