Bill Barnett - Founder and Managing Director of C9 Hotelworks at 4Hoteliers.comThailand is not the only Southeast Asian country experiencing a flood of travelers from Russia and China.

In the first quarter of 2017 Russian’s visiting Indonesia topped the list in overseas growth markets with a 76% year-on-year shift up, as seen in data from the Central Statistics Agency.

Meanwhile BaliDiscovery.com has reported that first quarter international passengers to Bali grew 21.9% versus the same period in 2016, as the total exceeded 1.3 million.

The resort island could be on track to come close to 6 million foreign arrivals for full year 2017.

Looking closer at the numbers, China has eclipsed Australia as Bali’s leading tourism segment, with January to March market share just shy of 30%.

Comparing the notable Australia segment, the down under share is slightly under 20%.

Other key movers is the continued decline of Japanese travelers to the island which was once considerably more prolific, though on the other side of the coin India is swiftly moving up the rankings, bolstered by greater airlift.

For readers, it’s important to note that domestic tourists continue to outperform foreign visitors in terms of sheer velocity to Bali.
