NH Expands its Collection Across Spain  

NH Hotel Group has opened two new hotels in Barcelona and Madrid, Spain, under its upper upscale NH Collection brand, increasing the NH Collection portfolio across the country to 22 hotels (67 worldwide). Both hotels are housed in landmark buildings in city centre locations. An existing property in Barcelona, on the city’s iconic Rambla de Catalunya, was thoroughly refurbished and transformed into the 255-room NH Collection Gran Hotel Calderón; the work on the hotel included the addition of ten meetings and events rooms, totalling 700 m², and a terrace with a pool and solarium. The historic Hotel Suecia in Madrid, which has hosted many famous figures including Ernest Hemingway, has emerged from a complete renovation as the 123-room NH Collection Suecia. A further eight NH Collection hotels are scheduled to open across the Americas and Europe between 2016 and 2018.

Meet HVS at the Mediterranean Resort & Hotel Real Estate Forum  

This year’s Mediterranean Resort and Hotel Real Estate Forum is due to take place over 30 November to 2 December 2016 at the Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos 1 in Barcelona, Spain. The event will cover many topics such as major trends affecting the Mediterranean hospitality market, the impact of geopolitical challenges on the hospitality market in the Mediterranean and the optimum strategies and opportunities for mixed-use resorts in the region. There will be a host of industry leading speakers at the conference, including Demitris Spanos, managing director of the HVS Athens and HVS Milan offices; Paolo Buffa di Perrero, HVS’s manager for southern Europe and resident manager Iberia; Ezio Poinelli, HVS’s senior director for southern Europe; and HVS London director, Sophie Perret. Basingstoke Bags a Village Hotel Club  

Village Urban Resorts is to take on a 250-year lease for a 2.3-acre site in the town of Basingstoke, in south central England, and plans to develop a £20 million Village Hotel Club on the plot. The 153-room hotel will be within the town’s Basing View business district. Village Urban Resorts, which is owned by US private equity firm KSL Capital Partners, is aiming to double its portfolio of 28 properties over the next five years and currently has two hotels in its pipeline.

IntercityHotel Launches its New Interior Design…  

Deutsche Hospitality’s latest IntercityHotel opening in Germany showcases the mid-range brand’s new interior design, which was created by Italian architect Matteo Thun. The 174-room InterCityHotel Braunschweig is in the northwestern city of Braunschweig, adjacent to the city’s main railway station. “The launch of the IntercityHotel Braunschweig is the starting signal for a whole new generation of IntercityHotels,” commented Puneet Chhatwal, Deutsche Hospitality’s chief executive officer. “We are delighted to be able to make our guest experience even more pleasant by offering a modern interior, convenient technology and a new gastronomic concept,” he added.

…And Announces its Second Hotel for Hanover  

Deutsche Hospitality is to open its second IntercityHotel in the north German city of Hanover. Work has already started on the 220-room hotel, on Berliner Allee, and is due to be completed in 2019. The hotel will be operated under a lease agreement and will join sister property the 148-room IntercityHotel Hanover, which will undergo a modernisation programme in 2017.

Radisson Blu to Blossom in Cape Verde  

Carlson Rezidor has got together with East-West SA to bring its Radisson Blu brand to Cape Verde, marking the group’s first appearance in the African archipelago. The 240-room Radisson Blu Beach Resort, Sal is due to open in the third quarter of 2019 on Santa Maria beach on the island of Sal. Once complete, the resort will have the largest conference facilities in Cape Verde, with 1,500 m² of meeting and event space. The development will also have two restaurants, four bars and an 800 m² wellness and spa area, amongst other facilities.

Deutsche Hospitality Plans to Make its Cape Verde Debut   

Deutsche Hospitality has signed management agreements with The Resort Group for its first hotels in the Cape Verde archipelago, off the northwest coast of Africa. A Jaz hotel with around 200 rooms and an approximately 350-room Steigenberger property will be developed on the same site at Santa Monica Beach on the island of Boa Vista, and they are both scheduled to open by 2020.

Four Points to Become Eight Points in Riyadh  

Marriott International has signed an agreement with Al Maryia Real Estate Establishment for its second Four Points by Sheraton property in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh. The 130-room Four Points by Sheraton King Abdul Aziz Road is expected to open in 2019 in the city’s Sulaimaniyah district, joining the 367-room Four Points by Sheraton Riyadh Khaldia. The group now has six Four Points by Sheraton hotels in its development pipeline for Saudi Arabia.

IHG Takes Up Residence on Doha’s Longest Private Beach  

InterContinental Hotels Group has opened the 82-unit InterContinental Doha Residences in Qatar. The property, the result of a management agreement with Gulf Hotels Company WLL, is connected to the InterContinental Doha and includes 17 three-bed villas, eight three-bed apartments, 15 two-bed apartments and 42 one-bed apartments. The group’s latest opening in Doha is on the city’s longest natural private beach and has become the second InterContinental Residences Suites property to open in Qatar, and the fifth in the Middle East over all.

Emaar’s New Address in Dubai  

Emaar Hospitality Group has announced its first beachfront resort project for its flagship Address Hotels + Resorts chain in Dubai. The 182-unit development, at the end of the Jumeirah Beach Residences in Dubai Marina, will comprise The Address Jumeirah Resort + Spa, The Address Residences Jumeirah Resort + Spa and The Residences Jumeirah Dubai, managed by The Address. The project will span 19,690 m² and will be housed over two towers (with one containing the hotel and serviced residences and the other, the residential units). Emaar currently operates seven hotels and two serviced residences across Dubai.
