Following its debut in Bangkok on November 29, 2015, the Heritage Race will travel to Kuching, Sarawak on January 30, 2016.
Uncover local stories in the Heritage Race Kuching.
A travel industry-led event created to uncover local stories about places and to raise funds for good causes, the Heritage Race is organised by local travel industry volunteers and Web In Travel (WIT), and sponsored by Accor Plus.
Close to 200 participants took part in the Bangkok Heritage Race and the event raised approximately 35,000 baht for Goodwill Group Foundation which empowers disadvantaged women in Thailand.
The first two Heritage Races in Singapore, organised jointly with Ramada-Days Inn Hotel at Zhongshan Park in 2014 and 2015, raised a total of S$26,000 for the Lee Ah Mooi Old Aged Home.
Said Yeoh Siew Hoon, founder of the Heritage Race, “I am delighted we found local champions in Sarawak and that the race is moving to Kuching. A few of them joined the race in Singapore last year and wanted to bring the idea to their destination.
“This is an event that can be held anywhere. Travellers today are seeking new, local experiences and travel industry professionals should help uncover these local secrets in their destinations.”
The main objective of the Kuching Heritage Race is to renew the interest and appreciation for the cultural and built heritage of Kuching.

A multi-cultural city with a long history that includes Sultans, tribal chiefs, Chinese and Indian traders, White Rajahs, Japanese Occupation, Australian liberation and time as a British colony.
This is a team event with teams of at least 2 and up to 6 members. The teams will “race” through Central Kuching testing the knowledge and agility of participants as they answer questions or carry out activities based on the clues and instructions given.
The aim is to make discovering the hidden cultural heritage of Kuching fun, and provide a great learning experience.
The maximum number of participants is capped at 200 with a participation fee of RM50 per person. There will be a chance at a lucky draw for cash awards for the teams which successfully answer all the questions and complete the assigned tasks within the time limit.
The aim of this race is to raise at least RM 20,000, mainly from sponsors, for the Breakthrough Ministries, which in turn purchase the required instruments and other items for “Meeting Needs.” Meeting Needs is a NGO that assists under-privileged families, especially those with special need children.
The race is open to anyone " travel industry professionals, students, locals or tourists " interested in uncovering local heritage stories in Kuching for a good cause.
