14 of the Top 25 international travel destinations for Canadians are in the US, 55% of all international travel interest to the US in July/August is from Canada and Virginia Beach is the most popular international beach with Canadians.

When it comes to summer vacation, Canadians clearly love crossing the border into the United States for some much deserved rest and relaxation.

But do Americans return the travel love? To find out, hotel search trivago.com analyzed summer travel interest of both Canadians and Americans, and quickly learned that it’s a one-sided relationship.

As seen below, fourteen of the Top 25 international destinations for Canadians searching for hotels via trivago, for travel in July & August, are located in the United States â€" with New York City, Las Vegas, Virginia Beach, San Francisco and Orlando leading the pack.

Overall, 55% of all international travel interest to the U.S. in July/August is from Canada, followed by Germany and the UK (8% each), Australia (5%) and France (2%).

Meanwhile, Americans aren’t nearly as interested in visiting our neighbors to the North this summer.

Only four of the Top 25 international travel destinations for American trivago users (below) are in Canada â€" Niagara Falls (#4), Vancouver (#6), Toronto (#12) and Montreal (#16) â€" accounting for just 3.7% of overall international travel interest for U.S. trivago users.

When it comes to sunshine and sand, the most popular beach in the world with Canadians is Virginia Beach, Virginia! For the second year in a row, the East Coast city has dominated beach interest with Canadians and actually grew in popularity from 2014 to 2015.

Last summer, Virginia Beach was the 10th most popular international destination for Canadian travelers searching for accommodation via trivago. In 2015, the city jumped two spots (#8) and remained the overall most popular beach in the world for America’s northern neighbors.
