A hotel manager at a Dublin property has launched a scathing attack on guests who he believes were threatening to post negative reviews in response to minor problems.
Paul Stenson from Charleville Lodge Hotel Dublin posted an open letter on the hotel’s Facebook page yesterday, aimed at some German guests who were in residence at the time.
In it, he explained how they had complained about dust on a lampshade and a headboard which wasn’t entirely horizontal.
While he accepted these issues, he said that after they were rectified, the guests continued to find more faults, taking photographic evidence to reception and insisting staff “do something about it”.

The open letter:
**AN OPEN LETTER FROM HOTEL MANAGER TO THE GERMAN GUESTS CURRENTLY IN RESIDENCE IN CHARLEVILLE LODGE**
Dear Guests,
It has been brought to my attention that there are a number of aspects of your bedroom with which you are not entirely happy. My reception team passed on the information to me earlier today. I believe there was a small amount of dust on the main lampshade in the room and the headboard wasn’t entirely horizontal. When bringing these issues to our attention, you produced photographic evidence of said irritations at the reception desk. I wouldn’t have expected any less efficiency of German guests, if I am honest. For that, I am grateful.
The dust on the lampshade is not acceptable. Our housekeeping staff are highly trained and the words ‘attention to detail’ are used regimentally at their performance assessments. I too would be equally as put out, if the lampshade in my room had a speck of dust on it.
In relation to the asymmetric headboard, I concur completely here too. I myself am one of the 2-3% of the world population who suffers from OCD, and I know I wouldn’t get a wink of sleep all night long, should I be aware that the headboard behind my head was not perfectly symmetrical.
I wasn’t present in the hotel today, but I believe the team resolved both issues immediately after they were brought to our attention. The housekeeping staff cleaned the dust from the shade and straightened the head board. I told them to use a spirit level when carrying out the straightening exercise. Rest assured that they will be disciplined over the lampshade issue, and I am currently looking into buying pocket sized spirit levels for every team member, so no further equilibrium issues take place in relation to head boards (or any fitting, for that matter).
