Worldwide largest Hotel Chains continue growing.

Takeover rumors are boiling up: the worldwide largest hotel chain InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is finance investor’s target.

According to media reports, ten billion US-Dollars were not enough. The hotel company with currently 4,697 hotels and 686,873 rooms in 100 countries is by far the largest chain – and it is growing further.

According to TOPHOTELPROJECT, the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data, more than 180,000 new hotel rooms are currently in the pipeline.

More than 1,100 new properties are under construction for the eleven IHG brands.

Strongest growth engine are the two brands Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts and Holiday Inn Express. 264 new Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts with more than 50,000 rooms are currently in the pipeline. 473 new properties with more than 54,000 rooms are planned for the economy hotel concept Holiday Inn Express.

Most of the IHG hotels are operated by franchise partners – with a strict brand management. The stringency in concept and brand promise as well as the growing tourism flows around the world had helped IHG to a huge jump in sales of ten percent last year.
