Africa seem to be the new darling for hotel group expansions.

Hotel chains discovered the black continent - top hotels by Kempinski and Amanresorts in the pipeline.

Marriott is the largest hotel chain in Africa. Kempinski starts its takes over with a luxury hotel in Rwanda.

The black continent is discovered by large hotel chains long ago, the hotel construction is booming. According to TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data, currently 240 new first class and luxury are in the pipeline in Africa.

Marriott International is the market leader in Africa through the takeover its South African hotel company Protea. With 116 new properties the portfolio was doubled to more than 23,000 beds. But the expansion continues: currently Marriott has seven new hotels under construction, thereof two large properties in Lagos/Nigeria and two hotels in Libreville/Gabon.

Kempinski is successfully establishing Grandhotels on European model in Africa. Recently they took over the management of the hotel Mille Collines in Kigali/Rwanda (right).

4Hoteliers Image LibraryThe expensive refurbishment will take 18 month. Currently Kempinski is operating seven hotels at the continent. Another resort in Accra/Ghana is in the development.

Further high class resorts will be developed by Amanresorts: in Gabon two large Hideaways arise.

The Asian resort company Banyan Tree is developing a property in Tetouan/Morocco. The Canadian luxury hotel operator Four Seasons has currently four new super hotels under construction for example in Casablanca/Morocco and Algiers/Algeria.

The hotel chain Jumeirah from Dubai has two properties in Marrakech/Morocco and in Gamsha Bay/Egypt in the pipeline.

Ritz-Carlton is currently developing five new properties in Morocco, thereof a 300 room property in Tamuda Bay. Six Senses prepares three resorts in Morocco and on the Seychelles.
