Dubai wins World Expo 2020 - Immense boost for tourism, number of hotel rooms will double.
Tuesday, 3rd December 2013

Dubai will host the Expo 2020: Winning the bid was celebrated in the Arabian Gulf of the glittering metropolis with great fireworks in the world's tallest skyscraper Burj Khalifa.

The World Expo will significantly strengthen tourism in Dubai and in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The next official world exhibitions will take place in Milan in 2015 and in Astana / Kazakhstan in 2017. 13 years ago Germany had hosted the Expo 2000 in Hanover. World exhibitions are officially awarded by an international organization in Paris.

More than 25 million Expo visitors in Dubai are expected between October 2020 and April 2021, including 70 percent from outside the UAE - the largest number of international visitors in the history of world exhibitions.

The further growth of tourism brought to Dubai an ongoing construction boom. Not only five-star hotels, but the segments first class (four-star) and comfort class (three stars) are to be expanded.

Currently there are more than 82,000 hotel and apartment rooms in Dubai and the number is expected to double by 2020.
