CHINA EXPECTS NATIONWIDE BROADBAND BY 2020
According to China Daily, China will strive to complete broadband coverage of both urban and rural areas by 2020. The strategy aims to achieve WiFi coverage in key public urban areas by 2013 and fixed broadband coverage for half of Chinese households by 2015. Fiber optic networks and 3G mobile coverage will be facilitated in 2013 while broadband converge will be expanded from 2014 to 2015. Broadband network and technology updates will be the key task from 2016 to 2020.
SHENZHEN TO LAUNCH FREE TRADE ZONE
According to China Daily, Shenzhen is set to launch a free trade zone on a pilot program. The city government recently released detailed plans for a tariff-free zone for exports and imports from 2013 to 2015. The zone, which includes seven industrial parks covering approximately 10.5 square kilometres, will be developed into an international commodity trade and logistics centre.
MACAO'S VISITOR SPENDING UP 23% IN Q2
According to China Daily and the city’s Statistics and Census Service, the total spending of visitors to Macao (excluding gaming expenses) reached MOP$13.9 billion (US$1.74 billion) in the second quarter of 2013, up 23 percent year-on-year. Per-capita spending of tourists (overnight visitors) increased by 17 percent year-on-year to MOP$3,396 (US$425.18), and that of same-day visitors rose by 3 percent to MOP$614 (US$76.87). Visitors spent mostly on shopping (49 percent), accommodation (24 percent) and food and beverage (19 percent).
WANGFUJING DEPARTMENT STORE TO OPEN FIRST FLAGSHIP STORE IN NINGXIA
According to China Retail News, The municipal government of Yinchuan, Beijing Wangfujing Department Store Group, and Yinchuan Jianfa Group have jointly signed an agreement to build a large urban complex in the city. The establishment of this structure will mark Wangfujing's first flagship store in Ningxia Hui autonomous region. Wangfujing Department Store Group will cooperate with Yinchuan Jianfa Group to build an urban complex integrating shopping, leisure, entertainment, dining, and culture in Yinchuan. With total investments of US$5 billion, the complex will have a planned construction area of about 240,000 square meters. Upon completion, this project will introduce various first-tier brands and will bring first-class business services to the city.
CHINA LODGING OPENS 123 HOTELS IN 2013Q2
According to HotelNewsNow, China Lodging opened a total of 123 leased-and-operated and franchised-and-managed hotels during the quarter. During the second quarter of 2013, the Company opened 30 leased ("leased-and- operated") hotels and 93 net manachised ("franchised-and-managed") hotels. As of June 30, 2013, the Company had 514 leased hotels, 679 manachised hotels, and 23 franchised Starway hotels in operation across 213 cities. The leased and manachised hotel rooms in operation increased by 32% and 83%, respectively, from a year ago. As of June 30, 2013, the Company had 70 leased hotels and 362 manachised hotels contracted or under construction.
