Currently more than 1,180 new four and five star hotels are in the pipeline or in development in the 'old continent'.

By comparison: in Asia currently 1,700 new top hotels arise and in North America only about 450 new hotels are under construction.

This data has been revealed by TOPHOTELPROJECTS, the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data. One of the most outstanding projects in Europe is the Andermatt Swiss Alps besides several five star hotel projects with 844 rooms in total.

Andermatt, located in central Switzerland, is going to be an international tourism hot spot again: with its large project „Swiss Alps“ - construction works are already proceeding – late in 2013 the first top hotel “The Chedi” will be inaugurated.

The exclusive hotel will feature only 50 rooms and suites. The investment volume of this luxury hotel is approximately 299 million Swiss francs. The operator is the international hotel association GHM, Global Hotel Management.

According to TOPHOTELPROJECTS.com, the second hotel project in “Andermatt Swiss Alps” will be a Radisson Blu Resort with 217 rooms. Further famous hotel operations, one of them a well-known thereof a known lifestyle hotelier, are in negotiations for further top hotels.

Another large project is the construction of the new tourism city “Gran Scala” in Northern Spain between Saragossa and Barcelona. On an area of approx.2,700 hectare a new tourism site with 70 hotels, 32 casinos, five theme parks and apartments for up to 100.000 inhabitants is developed.

Additionally a large conference center, a shopping centre, lots of restaurants, a golf course, a racecourse as well as museums and an opera are planned.

In total the new area will feature 80,000 hotel rooms. The opening of the first properties is scheduled for early 2014, but it may also be delayed. So far the hotel operators are not yet decided.
