Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts marked the opening of its 35th hotel in mainland China today with the debut of the Shangri-La Hotel, Yangzhou in Jiangsu Province.

Long renowned for its beauty, history and culture, the 2,500-year-old city of Yangzhou is the newest destination in the luxury hotel group's global collection, and Shangri-La Hotel, Yangzhou is the city's first international five-star hotel.

The 369-room hotel overlooks the Mingyue Lake and sits amidst its own classic Chinese garden with poetic pavilions, pagodas and koi ponds.

In addition to Shangri-La's renowned hospitality, the hotel features brand signatures such as spacious, elegant guestrooms; Horizon Club floor accommodations and private lounge; complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel; an enticing array of restaurants, and a full complement of leisure and recreational facilities, including a comprehensive Health Club with a 25-metre indoor swimming pool, fully equipped gym, tennis court and massage treatment rooms.

Among the hotel's dining and entertainment options are Cafe Xiu, which features five interactive cooking stations serving international dishes, and the signature Shang Palace offering authentic Cantonese cuisine and traditional Huaiyang selections.

The city's newest gathering spot for meetings and special events is also the largest venue in Yangzhou. The hotel's 1,485-square-metre, pillar-free Grand Ballroom can accommodate up to 840 people for a banquet function or 1,350 for a reception.  The Grand Ballroom can also be divided into three separate ballrooms and it offers a pre-function area of 500 square meters.  There are eight additional function rooms plus a VIP greeting room.

Ideally located in the New Western District of Yangzhou, the hotel is steps away from the Conference and Exhibition Centre and a short drive to the city centre and famous Slender West Lake.  Yangzhou Railway Station is five minutes from the hotel by car. Yangzhou Taizhou Airport is approximately 30 minutes away and Nanjing Lukou International Airport is an hour and a half's drive.

Yangzhou is a picturesque city with a storied history. Legend has it Marco Polo served there under Mongol Emperor Kublai Khan from 1282 to 1287. Many famous Chinese poets, especially from the Tang (618-907) and Qing (1644-1912) dynasties, praised Yangzhou for its waterways, gardens, lacquer ware and Huaiyang cuisine.
