Travel Trends: What's Next in Tourism?
By Frederic Gonzalo
Saturday, 28th November 2015

Time to head off to your favorite destination, will you stay home, embark on a staycation traveling in your own state or province or will you fly away to some remote island or perhaps rather in a bustling European city?

Peter Corcoran, from SunSearch Holidays, created this nifty infographic highlighting some important trends we are seeing in the travel & hospitality sphere these days.

Some highlights to consider:

  • The rising trend for connected travelers to actually… unplug! Conversely, wifi remains a key component required for both leisure and business travelers, so hoteliers and destinations will need to strike a difficult balance.
  • Space travel? Maybe not in 2015, and certainly not anytime soon to our new sister planet Kepler 452b, but there is always a buzz surrounding the evolution of this niche in travel.
  • Disaster tourism is unfortunately always a thing. People wanted to come and see Ground Zero after the events of 9/11 in 2001 in New York, or see the Costa cruise ship while it was still afloat in Italy. This is highlighted in here through two trends: forbidden zones and primitive lands.
  • Destination Hotels are another interesting trend unfolding, as many hotels want to appeal to customers for more than just rooms and beds, but rather a more holistic experience.
