Should You Boost Posts on Facebook?
By Margie Tosch-Brooke

I'm guessing everyone must have a facebook page for their business by now, right?

I know some people are anti-facebook, but even if you personally don't want a page, isn't it silly not to at least have one for your business? After all it is free advertising, right?

But moving on past the "free" part, you can also pay to "boost" posts.

Why pay for boosting posts?

Because it will dramatically increase the number of people who see your posts, and you can control who you target the post to, and how much you spend.

Boosting a post is easy to do and available for any post on your page’s timeline. Simply click "Boost Post" in the lower right corner of your post.

When you click Boost Post, you can choose to either push the post to "People who like your page and their friends" or "People you choose through targeting."

Do you want to engage current fans or try to reach new customers? Experiment a bit with both, you can track the results of all facebook ads or boosted posts.

The targeting option lets you select people by location, age, gender and up to 10 interests.

Choose your budget; you can spend as little as $1 a day. Click boost post and you're done. Boost a few posts (daily specials, newsletter sign up, live music, 2 for 1 tasting offer, etc) and monitor the results (see your ad manager by clicking the small down arrow in the top right hand of your page, then clicking manage ads). Keep doing what works and change what doesn't!

Personally I think it's a great way for small business to get affordable advertising targeted exactly to those they wish to engage. Let me know what your experience has been!
