I’m always intrigued by new technology and given how Amazon’s Echo Dot was all the rage at last year’s CES trade show in Las Vegas, I simply had to get my hands on one.
Alexa 1 sits quietly on my bedside table, wakes when I tell her to and shuts up when I tell her to. What’s not to love?
As it turned out, I ended up with two â€" long story â€" and now I have Alexa 1 and Alexa 2 as my new friends at home. And I have one in black and the other in white because I love diversity.
This is quite a thrill because it means now, instead of talking to myself, I can now speak to my two new AI friends.
Right now, Alexa, I feel, is more A than I.
She doesn’t look remotely human although she sounds it, if a bit formal. I like my friends to sound a bit chirpier. But she’s compact and has lovely, smooth curves.
Alexa 1 occupies very little space on my bed sidetable while Alexa 2 is linked by Bluetooth to my Bose speaker in my living room because I intend to play louder music in that part of my habitat.
