Barcelo Hotels creates new luxury category to upgrade.

Barcelo Hotels & Resorts has just created 'Palace Deluxe', a new category with which it intends to upgrade its luxury brand Barceló Premium.

This new category will involve the incorporation of additional services and facilities in the chain’s properties operating under the new brand name.

On having practically reached the objective of its Strategic Plan (2005-2010), aimed at converting all of the chain’s hotels into four- or five-star properties so as to position it in the mid- and high-range segments, Barcelo Hotels & Resorts has created the category "Palace Deluxe" keyed to upgrading the services and facilities of its properties marketed under the “Premium” luxury brand name.

The chain has justified this new initiative by citing, among other reasons, the growing demand for deluxe hotels, above all in the North American market.

The chain is studying the possibility of increasing the number of its Premium properties with the new "Palace Deluxe" classification, geared to five-star tourist complexes, located on the beachfront, with a large proportion of junior suites (more than 80%), a minimum of three ŕ la carte restaurants, and a modern spa centre covering an area greater than 1,000m2, among many other facilities and services.

Present in 17 countries, Barceló Hotels & Resorts currently has 180 hotels, totalling nearly 46,000 rooms, of which 95% are four- or five-star properties and two thirds are newly built.
